The Battle of Chojnice (or Battle of Konitz) occurred on 18 September 1454 near the town of Chojnice, between Poland and the Teutonic Knights during the Thirteen Years' War. The battle was won by the Teutonic Knights.

1598 — Battle of Stegeborg
The Battle of Stegeborg took place on a meadow near Stegeborg Castle, Sweden on September 18, 1598. It is part of the so-called War against Sigismund, in turn part of the Polish–Swedish Wars. King of Poland and Sweden, Sigismund, tried to put down a rebellion by Duke Charles. The army of King Sigismund III Vasa and Prince Charles met the Stegeborg. Mercenaries king easily stopped of untrained troops the prince and Polish cavalry attack broke down and refused to strike causing panic, during which the enemy suffered heavy losses.

In the skirmish the Royalist cavalry led by Prince Rupert attacked the extended columns of the Parliamentarian army of the Earl of Essex at Aldbourne Chase, Wiltshire, as he was attempting to get his army to London.

1691 — Battle of Leuze
The Battle of Leuze was a minor Cavalry engagement of the Nine Years' War that took place on 18 September 1691 between a detachment of French and a slightly superior Allied force. Marshal Luxembourg had been informed that William III of Orange had left for England, in the supposition that the campaign of 1691 was at its end. He was also informed that Marshal Waldeck, who was left in charge, was preparing to retire into winter quarters. Luxembourg was near Tournai and sent out a reconnaissance under Marsilly, from whom he learned that the main body of the Allied army was retreating, leaving a rear-guard of cavalry at Leuze.

1739 — Treaty of Belgrade
The Treaty of Belgrade, also known as the Belgrade Peace, was a peace treaty between the Habsburg Monarchy and Ottoman Empire, that was signed on September 18, 1739, in Belgrade (modern Serbia), thus ending the Austro-Turkish War (1737–1739). Agreed territorial changes were substantial, and also favorable for the Ottoman side, since Habsburgs had to cede three regions: the Banat of Craiova (modern Oltenia), the Kingdom of Serbia with Belgrade, and Bosnian section of Posavina, thus placing the newly defined Habsburg-Ottoman border on the rivers Sava and Danube.

1793 — Battle of Coron (1793)
The Battle of Coron (18 September 1793) was fought between Royalist and Republican French forces near Coron during the War in the Vendée. A Republican division from Saumur led by Antoine Joseph Santerre beat Royalist Vendeans at Doué-la-Fontaine on 15 September and at Vihiers on the 17th. However, on 18 September Santerre's division blundered into an ambush between Vihiers and Coron set by Louis Marie de Lescure and Dominique Piron. The Republican column was routed and lost all its artillery. A few days later, a flanking Republican division under Charles François Duhoux was beaten in the Battle of Pont-Barré.

1799 — Battle of Mannheim (1799)
The Battle of Mannheim (18 September 1799) was fought between a Habsburg Austrian army commanded by Archduke Charles, Duke of Teschen and a Republican French army under Jacques Léonard Muller. Most of the French Army of the Rhine had retreated to the west bank of the Rhine River, leaving the division of Antoine Laroche Dubouscat to hold Mannheim on the east bank. Despite assistance by Michel Ney, Laroche's division was beaten and driven out of the city when attacked by Charles and a much superior force.

1810 — Action of 18 September 1810
The Action of 18 September 1810 was a naval battle fought between British Royal Navy and French Navy frigates in the Indian Ocean during the Napoleonic Wars. The engagement was one of several between rival frigate squadrons contesting control of the French island base of Île de France, from which French frigates had raided British trade routes during the war. The action came in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Grand Port, in which four British frigates had been lost, and just four days after a fifth British frigate had been captured and subsequently recaptured in the Action of 13 September 1810.

The Chilean War of Independence was a war between pro-independence Chilean criollos seeking political and economic independence from Spain and royalist criollos supporting continued allegiance to the Captaincy General of Chile and membership of the Spanish Empire. Traditionally, the beginning of the war is dated as September 18, 1810. Depending on what terms are used to define its end, it lasted until 1821, when royalist forces were defeated by José de San Martín; or until 1826, when the last Spanish troops surrendered and the Chiloé Archipelago was incorporated to the Chilean republic.

The Battle of Ixtlahuaca, an episode of the Mexican Reform War, took place on 18 September 1858 in the municipality of Ixtlahuaca in the State of Mexico, between liberal and conservative army forces. The victory was won by the liberal side. The liberal brigadier, Manuel Garcia Pueblita, then commander of the division of Michoacán was near San Felipe del Progreso, when he was notified via military information that a conservative force was garrisoned in the town of Ixtlahuaca.

The Battle of Castelfidardo was a battle of the Expedition of the Thousand that took place on 18 September 1860, at Castelfidardo, a small town in the Marche region of Italy. It was fought between the Sardinian army - acting as the driving force in the war for Italian unification, against the Papal States. On 7 September, Cavour, Prime Minister of Piedmont, sent an ultimatum to the Pope demanding that he dismiss his foreign troops. When he failed to do this, 35,000 troops crossed the border on 11 September, with General Cialdini advancing along the Adriatic coast and General Della Rocca leading another troop across Umbria.

On 18 September 1961, a DC-6 passenger aircraft of Transair Sweden operating for the United Nations (UN) crashed near Ndola, Northern Rhodesia (present-day Zambia). The crash resulted in the deaths of all people on board, including Dag Hammarskjöld, the second secretary-general of the United Nations, and 15 others. Hammarskjöld had been en route to ceasefire negotiations with Moïse Tshombe during the Congo Crisis.

The 1998 Verano de Escándalo (Spanish for "Summer of Scandal") was the second annual Verano de Escandalo professional wrestling show promoted by Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA). The show took place on September 18, 1998, in Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The main event featured steel cage match between the teams of Heavy Metal and Blue Demon Jr. and Kick Boxer and Abismo Negro. The stipulation of the main event was that if the team of Heavy Metal and Blue Demon Jr. lost referee Guicho Dominguez would be referee El Tirante's "slave" for a week.

2001 — 2001 anthrax attacks
The 2001 anthrax attacks, also known as Amerithrax from its Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) case name, occurred within the United States over the course of several weeks beginning on September 18, 2001, one week after the September 11 attacks. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. According to the FBI, the ensuing investigation became "one of the largest and most complex in the history of law enforcement." A major focus in the early years of the investigation was a bio-weapons expert named Steven Hatfill, who was eventually exonerated.

German federal elections took place on 18 September 2005 to elect the members of the 16th German Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany. They became necessary after a motion of confidence in Chancellor Gerhard Schröder failed on 1 July. Following the defeat of Schröder's Social Democratic Party (SPD) in a state election, Schröder asked his supporters to abstain in the Bundestag motion in order that it fail and thus trigger an early federal election. The opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its sister party in Bavaria, the Christian Social Union (CSU), started the federal election campaign with a 21% lead over the SPD in opinion polls.

Unforgiven (2005) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was the seventh annual Unforgiven event and took place on September 18, 2005, at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The last Berlin state election was held on 18 September 2011, to elect members to the Abgeordnetenhaus (House of Deputies) of Berlin. All 141 seats were up for election. Berlin was governed by a coalition between the Social Democratic Party and The Left at the time. Current mayor Klaus Wowereit was the favourite heading into Sunday's election. The SPD won the most seats, 48, despite losing five. The Left also lost three seats, making a renewal of the two parties' red-red coalition impossible. The centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) gained two seats to 39, putting them in second place, while the Greens gained seven to finish third, with 30.

2015 — 2015 Camp Badaber attack
On 18 September 2015, 14 militants reportedly "entered from Afghanistan" and tried to storm a Pakistan Air Force base in Badaber, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan killing 29 Pakistanis including a Pakistan Army's Quick Response Force's commander Captain Asfand Yar. The attack was "foiled" by Pakistani military and all militants were killed in state's retaliation, according to official claims. It was the first time that the militants came with a new strategy; to engage the Pakistani military in a long-term battle with excessive ammunition. PAF Camp Badaber is located just about 48 kilometres (30 mi) east of Afghan border.

2016 — 2016 Uri attack
The 2016 Uri attack was an attack by four heavily armed terrorists on 18 September 2016, near the town of Uri in the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was reported as "the deadliest attack on security forces in Kashmir in two decades". No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, though the militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed is suspected of being involved in the planning and execution of the attack. At the time of the attack, the Kashmir Valley region was at the centre of unrest, during which 85 civilians were killed and thousands injured in clashes with security forces.
