1279 — Battle of Yamen
The naval Battle of Yamen (simplified Chinese: 崖门战役; traditional Chinese: 厓門戰役) (also known as the Naval Battle of Mount Ya; simplified Chinese: 崖山海战; traditional Chinese: 厓山海戰) took place on 19 March 1279 and is considered to be the last stand of the Song dynasty against the invading Mongol Yuan Dynasty. Although outnumbered 10:1, the Yuan navy delivered a crushing tactical and strategic victory, destroying the Song. Today, the battle site is located at Yamen, in Xinhui County, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, China.

1619 — Ambush at Portudal
The Ambush at Portudal (Danish: Angrebet ved Portudal) was a minor battle fought between natives of Portudal (present-day Saly, Senegal) and Danish armed men on 19 March 1619. The Danes were about to obtain fresh water when they were caught by surprise by local natives. Many of them were either killed, wounded, or captured.

1643 — Battle of Hopton Heath
The Battle of Hopton Heath, in Staffordshire, was a battle of the First English Civil War, fought on Sunday 19 March 1643 between Parliamentarian forces led by Sir John Gell, 1st Baronet and Sir William Brereton and a Royalist force under Spencer Compton, 2nd Earl of Northampton. The battle ended at nightfall, with the victory remaining a matter of opinion: that the Parliamentarian foot were still in position at nightfall when, as the Royalists themselves admitted, they drew back a little; or that next morning the Royalists occupied the field after the Parliamentarians retreated in the night.

1703 — Battle of Saločiai (1703)
The Battle of Saločiai, or Battle of Saladen, was a military engagement that took place on 19 March 1703 near Saločiai, Lithuania during the Great Northern War. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Swedish, under command of Lewenhaupt, managed to crush the combined Russo-Lithuanian Army while taking very few casualties. After the battle the Russians were forced to retreat.

Incumbent Acting President Rawlins Lowndes was elected by the South Carolina General Assembly after their initial choice Arthur Middleton declined to take the office. The Battle of Azua (Battle of March 19), was the first major battle of the Dominican War of Independence and was fought on March 19, 1844, at Azua de Compostela, Azua Province. A force of some 2,200 Dominican troops, a portion of the Army of The South, led by General Pedro Santana, defeated an outnumbering force of 10,000 troops of the Haitian Army led by General Souffrand.

1865 — Battle of Bentonville
The Battle of Bentonville (March 19–21, 1865) was fought in Bentonville, North Carolina, near the town of Four Oaks, as part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War. It was the last battle between the armies of Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman and Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. As the right wing of Sherman's army under command of Maj. Gen. Oliver O. Howard marched toward Goldsborough, the left wing under command of Maj. Gen. H. W. Slocum encountered the entrenched men of Johnston's army.

1921 — Crossbarry ambush
The Crossbarry ambush, also known as the Battle of Crossbarry, occurred on 19 March 1921 and was one of the largest engagements of the Irish War of Independence. It took place near the small village of Crossbarry in County Cork, about 20 km south-west of Cork city. About a hundred Irish Republican Army (IRA) volunteers, commanded by Tom Barry, escaped an attempt by about 1,200 British troops to encircle them.

1947 — Battle of Yan'an
After World War II, Hu Zongnan battled the Communist Party of China and in the early stage of the struggle, was once successful in the Battle of Yan'an taking Yan'an, the capital of the communist base in Shaanxi. Yan'an had served as the capital of Red China from the end of the Long March in 1935, through World War II, until its capture in 1947. The earlier KMT campaigns in the 1930s had been a failure. There was only token Red resistance, as most Reds had already fled in advance in a strategic withdrawal to lure Hu to the Northwest.

1958 — Monarch Underwear Company fire
The Monarch Underwear Company fire occurred in Manhattan, New York City at 623 Broadway on March 19, 1958. Twenty-four people were killed in a loft fire, between Houston Street and Bleecker Street and fifteen more were injured. Six of the injured were hurt when they leaped from the building and missed fire nets. The conflagration began in the third floor textile printing plant of an edifice in which the workrooms of several businesses were located.

1967 — Gabonese general election, 1967
General elections were held in Gabon on 19 March 1967 to elect a President and the National Assembly. Incumbent Léon M'ba of the Gabonese Democratic Bloc was the only candidate in the presidential election, and was elected unopposed. In the National Assembly election the Gabonese Democratic Bloc was the only party to contest the election, and won all 47 seats. Voter turnout was 99.4%. On 27 November 1967, just days after he took his presidential oath at the Gabonese embassy, M'ba died from cancer, and was succeeded by Ali Bernard Bongo. He declared the country a one-party state the following year.

The French legislative elections took place on 12 March and 19 March 1978 to elect the sixth National Assembly of the Fifth Republic. On 2 April 1974 President Georges Pompidou died. The non-Gaullist center-right leader Valéry Giscard d'Estaing was elected to succeed him. Because the Gaullist UDR was the largest party in the pro-Giscard majority in the Assembly, Giscard chose Jacques Chirac to lead the cabinet. This period was one of renovation for Gaullism. The presidential will to "govern towards the center" and to promote a "modern liberal society" disconcerted the Gaullist party.

The event was to honor and remember CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth who died in March 1987. It also honored El Santo, the most famous Mexican professional wrestler ever. The name of the annual March event would later be shortened to just Homenaje a Dos Leyendas after CMLL had a falling out with El Santo's son El Hijo del Santo, with the event honoring a different wrestler along with Lutteroth.

2004 — Konginkangas bus disaster
The Konginkangas bus disaster was a major traffic accident on March 19, 2004, outside the Konginkangas village in Äänekoski, Finland. At 02:08 local time (00:08 UTC) a bus transporting 38 passengers, most of them youths, to the Rukatunturi skiing center for an alpine skiing vacation crashed into a full-trailer truck carrying heavy paper rolls weighing about 61.5 tonnes (60.5 long tons; 67.8 short tons) total. The accident occurred on highway 4 (E75) 20 kilometres (12 mi) north of Äänekoski, and left the bus driver and 23 passengers dead; 14 were injured. The executive director of the youth travel company was among those who perished in the accident.

2004 — 3-19 shooting incident
The 3–19 shooting incident (Chinese: 三一九槍擊事件) was an assassination attempt on President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu while they were campaigning in Tainan, Taiwan on March 19, 2004, the day before Taiwan's presidential election. Their injuries were not life-threatening, and both Chen and Lu were released from Chi-Mei Hospital on the same day without losing consciousness or undergoing surgery.

Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2010 (Spanish for "Homage to Two Legends") was an annual professional wrestling major event produced by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), which took place on March 19, 2010 in Arena México, Mexico City, Mexico. The event paid tribute to CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth who is always honored at Dos Leyendas and to Ray Mendoza, the father of Los Villanos (I, II, III, IV and V). The main event was a tag team elimination match with Volador Jr. and La Sombra facing Místico and El Felino.
