1335 — Battle of Boroughmuir
The Battle of Boroughmuir was fought on 30 July 1335 between Guy, Count of Namur, a cousin of Queen Philippa of England, and John Randolph, 3rd Earl of Moray and Guardian of Scotland. Namur was on his way to join Edward III on his invasion of Scotland, when he was intercepted on the common grazing ground to the south of Edinburgh - the Borough Muir. The fighting continued into the city itself, and concluded in a desperate struggle in the ruins of the old castle. Randolph was victorious in a fight which forms a small part of the second War of Scottish Independence.

1570 — Battle of Anegawa
The Sengoku period Battle of Anegawa (姉川の戦い Anegawa no Tatakai) (30 July 1570) occurred near Lake Biwa in Ōmi Province, Japan, between the allied forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu, against the combined forces of the Azai and Asakura clans. It is notable as the first battle that involved the alliance between Nobunaga and Ieyasu, liberated the Oda clan from its unbalanced alliance with the Azai, and saw Nobunaga's prodigious use of firearms. Nobunaga's loyal retainer, Toyotomi Hideyoshi was assigned to lead troops into open battle for the first time.

1627 — 1627 Gargano earthquake
The 1627 Gargano earthquake struck Gargano and part of Tavoliere, southern Italy, at about mid-day on 30 July 1627. A "very large earthquake" caused a major tsunami, the largest seismic event ever recorded in the Gargano region, which "produced severe damage in the whole promontory", killing about 5,000 people. Four aftershocks were documented. The most extensive damage was noted between San Severo and Lesina. Some sources describe a large 1626 Naples earthquake, but other have argued that these are misreports of the 1627 event.

1809 — Battle of Halberstadt
The Battle of Halberstadt took place on 29 and 30 July 1809 at Halberstadt in the Kingdom of Westphalia, during the War of the Fifth Coalition. A Westphalian infantry force attempted to halt the Black Brunswickers under Frederick William, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel who were heading for North Sea coast. However, the Brunswickers surprised the Westphalians by a rapid advance and defeated them inside the town.

The Battle of Quilmes took place between a fleet of the Imperial Brazilian Navy, commanded by British admiral James Norton and a fleet of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata under the command of William Brown. The confrontations began at dawn on July 30, 1826 and lasted for three hours.

1864 — Battle of the Crater
The Battle of the Crater was a battle of the American Civil War, part of the Siege of Petersburg. It took place on July 30, 1864, between the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, commanded by General Robert E. Lee and the Union Army of the Potomac, commanded by Maj. Gen. George G. Meade (under the direct supervision of the general-in-chief, Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant). After weeks of preparation, on July 30, Union forces exploded a mine in Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside's IX Corps sector, blowing a gap in the Confederate defenses of Petersburg, Virginia.

1866 — New Orleans riot
The New Orleans riot, which occurred on July 30, 1866, was a violent conflict in which whites attacked blacks parading outside the Mechanics Institute in New Orleans, where a reconvened Louisiana Constitutional Convention was being held. The Radical Republicans in Louisiana had called for the Convention as they were angered by the legislature's enactment of the Black Codes and its refusal to give black men the vote.

The Black Tom explosion on July 30, 1916, in Jersey City, New Jersey, was an act of sabotage by German agents to destroy American-made munitions that were to be supplied to the Allies in World War I. This incident, which happened prior to formal American entry into the war, is also notable for causing damage to the Statue of Liberty.

1930 — 1930 FIFA World Cup final
The final match of the 1930 FIFA World Cup, the inaugural edition of FIFA's competition for national football teams, was played at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 30 July 1930, and was contested by Uruguay and Argentina. The tournament comprised hosts Uruguay and 12 other teams that were invited by FIFA to compete. The 13 teams competed in a group stage, from which 4 teams qualified for the knockout stage. En route to the final, Uruguay finished first in Group 3, with two wins, after which they defeated Yugoslavia in the semi-final.

Operation Abanadela was a military operation launched by the Portuguese Armed Forces in Mozambique during the Mozambican War of Independence against FRELIMO guerrillas in July 1970. It designates a set of patrols carried out along the Zambezi River in Mozambique between 20 and 30 July 1970 in order to protect the construction of the Cahora Bassa dam from possible attacks by the guerrillas of FRELIMO and the passage of these to the south towards Tete.

1980 — Operation Klipklop
Operation Klipklop occurred during the South African Border War between the Republic of South Africa and SWAPO. The operation began at first light on the 30 July 1980 when South African forces attacked SWAPO facilities in Angola. The objective was a PLAN logistics base at the town of Chitado, 5 km from the Namibian border and 35 km east of Ruacana, with the aim of disrupting mortar attacks on the Ruacana hydro-electric scheme. Supported by Alouette III attack helicopters, 80 men were dropped by helicopters close to the town.

1999 — Curtis Comes Home
Curtis Comes Home (alternately Curtis Goes Home) was a professional wrestling memorial show produced by Cody Michaels, which took place on July 30, 1999 at the Ice Garden in Rostraver, Pennsylvania. Proceeds from the event went to raise money for wrestling referee Mark Curtis, then suffering from stomach cancer, to pay part of his medical expenses. It was one of the largest independent supercards ever held in the United States according to Jim Cornette, a longtime friend of Curtis, who was also among the show's participants. The event included talent from Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Federation, as well as notable stars from the independent circuit.

2000 — Venezuelan general election, 2000
General elections were held in Venezuela on 30 July 2000, the first under the country's newly adopted 1999 constitution. Incumbent President Hugo Chávez ran for election for a full 6 year term under the new Constitution. He was challenged by a former ally of his, Zulia Governor Francisco Arias Cárdenas. Chávez easily won the election with almost 60% of the popular vote, increasing his vote share over the previous elections, and managing to carry a larger number of states. Arias Cárdenas only managed to narrowly carry his home state of Zulia.

2012 — Nellore train fire
On 30 July 2012, the Chennai-bound Tamil Nadu Express train caught fire at 4:22 am near Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India. At least 32 passengers died and 27 were injured. The fire gutted the S-11 sleeper coach in 20 minutes. A railway emergency crew prevented the fire from spreading to the other coaches.

2014 — 2014 Malin landslide
On 30 July 2014, a landslide occurred in the village of Malin in the Ambegaon taluka of the Pune district in Maharashtra, India. The landslide, which hit early in the morning while residents were asleep, was believed to have been caused by a burst of heavy rainfall, and killed at least 151 people. The landslide was first noticed by a bus driver who drove by the area and saw that the village had been overrun with mud and earth. In addition to those dead, more than 160 people, and possibly up to 200, were believed to have been buried in the landslide in 44 separate houses.
